You may now access the new Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) course portal, called Genius, which features a modern interface and learning dashboard that provide easy access to course offerings and materials — all in one place.  

*OLLI members: This transition does not affect OLLI programs at this time. We will be in touch when changes apply.

Explore and Register for Courses

Follow these five steps to register in the course portal.

1) Find a Course 

Browse the course portal catalog and find a course that suits your interests, location, and learning preferences. Select “More Info” to learn about each course.  You will then be directed to “View the Course and Register” or “Add to Cart.”*  
 
*As courses migrate to the new system, some course descriptions will display a large yellow “View the Course and Register” button. If provided, please click the yellow button which will redirect you to the correct registration link and register using your old login credentials. If not, please click, “Add to Cart.”  

2) Add More Courses or View Cart 

You may continue to add additional courses through the course portal by closing out of the course information and returning to the catalog. Alternatively, you can choose "View Cart" to continue registering by creating an account. *

*If you have already created a personal account in this new system, select “I already have an account” at the top of the page, log in to your account, and move to step 4.  

3) Create an Account 

To register for a course with Montana State University (MSU) Academic Technology and Outreach (ATO), you must first create an account . Creating an account gives you online access to enroll in courses, view your registration history, change your address and more. Note: You must have an email address to create an account.  
  
After creating an account, you will be prompted to recover your password and log in for the first time by entering your username or email address.   If you have forgotten your password at any time, you may recover your password.   

4) Return to Your Cart and Checkout

After logging into your account, select "Catalog" on your dashboard menu. If you have finished adding courses to your cart, click the "Cart" icon in the top right corner and select "Checkout." Review your cart, then scroll to the bottom of the page and select your payment method. Payment methods include:  

    • Credit Card: Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express.  
    • Invoice: If programs offer invoicing as a payment option, payment must be made before the program's start date or you will be removed from the course.  

Before payment can be made, you will be prompted to select your course type. Please choose from the following:    

    • OLLI  (OLLI  member courses - available in July
    • Continuing Ed (Non-credit Continuing and Professional Education courses)  
    • Youth (Youth camps and workshops for learners under age 18)  
    • Academic Credit (588-rubric courses)  

5) Registration Confirmation

Once payment has been processed, a registration confirmation page will open, notifying you that you are enrolled in the course(s). The system will also send a confirmation email to your email address.   

You may choose “Go to Dashboard" to view your "Active," "Pending," and/or "Completed" courses or sign out of the portal. 

Previous course information will be linked to new user accounts on a weekly basis, so any relevant course history will appear soon after you create your account.  

Access Courses and Learner Tools 

After creating your account, you may log-in to the course portal at any point.

Upon logging in, you will be directed to your dashboard where you can view your "Active," "Pending," and/or  "Completed" courses. 

Portal Tools 

Through the portal menu, you may navigate to additional portal tools including:

  • Message Center: View account emails and send a message to ATO CPE staff 
  • Catalog: View and register for courses 
  • Request Drop: If you need to drop a course, you may do so here; please view our refund policy before dropping a course
  • Files: Access course files if available
  • Academic Snapshot: View current and previous course details in one place
  • Payments & Purchases: View course transaction details 
  • Help: Learn more about the Genius course portal software 
  • Edit Account: Edit contact information and update your password 
  • MFA: Enable or reset your multi-factor authentication (MFA) settings  
  • Canvas: Access the non-credit Canvas learning management system for online or Canvas-supported courses
