Workshop I (8:30 AM-10:00 AM)

A. Mini-Medical School - Team & Extreme Sports

Spend a week as a doctor! Learn about sports injuries, sports medicine and how doctors are trained to work with athletes. You’ll do fun activities exploring team sports and extreme sports and you’ll learn about how the human body is capable of its amazing activities.

B. Learn Design & Make Your Own Clothes!

Learn how to use your body measurements to construct a pattern and sew a piece of clothing. You’ll learn about the pattern making process, how to lay out patterns and how to sew patterns. You will also be able to tell if clothing fits properly and how to fix it if it doesn’t.

D. A Bug’s World

Come learn about the exciting world of bugs! You’ll have lots of hands-on activities and learn all about mosquitos and disease, livestock entomology, beetles, butterflies and bees, and the flies commonly used in fly fishing.

E. Launch and Fly a Real Weather Balloon!

Come an learn about electronics, the atmosphere, weather and much more! You will assemble and fly a real weather balloon and specific activities will include soldering a circuit board, learning about the atmosphere and weather, and conducting multiple weather balloon flights.

Workshop II (10:20 AM-11:50 AM)

F. Spaghetti Spans

You’ve seen bridges made of concrete and steel, but have you seen bridges made of spaghetti? Come and learn about the mechanics and design of bridges and design and build your own bridge from glue and spaghetti. The last day, you’ll see whose design can take the most stress and last the longest.

G. Introduction to Sign Language

Learn the basics of sign language (Signing Exact English or S.E.E.) and about issues concerning the deaf. You’ll discuss the many uses for sign language (like talking when you aren’t supposed to!) and you’ll practice your new signing skills with finger spelling and sign language games, and by learning to sign along with your favorite songs.

H. Introduction to Robotics

Learn how to make your own robots, tell them what to do, and see them obey your every whim! Do you think you have what it takes to do this? Then come and give it a try! Have a friendly competition with your buddies to see whose robot does best at solving various challenges - or build your own faithful sidekick to help you along. Anything goes! (After you learn the ropes, that is.)

I. Be A Multimedia Journalist

Do you like to take photos or shoot video? Maybe you enjoy writing stories or watching multimedia on sites like YouTube or MySpace? If so, this workshop is for you! You’ll be a roving Peaks reporter, covering all the camp action in video, audio, digital pictures and interviews. You’ll make multimedia news packages to share with the whole group, and also create an interactive multimedia exhibit that everyone can experience on a 65” plasma touch screen. You’ll work hard but have a lot of fun as a multimedia journalist!

J. Fun With Metal

Ever wonder how jewelry is made? Do you love to make art? In this workshop you’ll get to use your hands and minds to learn some basic metalsmithing and design techniques. You will make rings, pins, small sculptures, and more throughout the week. Have fun and make something you’ll be proud to wear!

K. Water World

Water is our most precious resource - but what do we know about it? You’ll begin with experiments that test physical properties of water, and then discover where groundwater comes from, how wells work and where water goes when we flush the toilet. You’ll head out to a local stream to learn how to measure water quality using the same methods as the professionals. Prepare to get wet as you dive into the world of water!

Put on your lab coats and get ready for a big bang! You will be in the lab doing all kinds of experiments and observing the states of matter and all their fascinating chemical reactions.

Knitting is no longer your Grandma’s craft - it is one of the hottest forms of textile making today! You’ll learn how to cast on, knit, purl and bind off. In one week you will create a beautiful hand-made scarf and you have the skills to make many more!

O. Explosions in the Sky!

Learn what happens when stars explode! You will explore the conditions that cause some stars to go boom and some to just fizzle. You will also see all the new ways to “see” the explosions!
