Costs and Assistance

The cost to take online courses at Montana State University varies. Please see the MSU Cost Estimates page for an approximation.

If you are registering only for online courses, some fees may be waived. You will, however, pay a registration and computer fee. Also, some distance degree programs charge extra costs. Please check with individual programs to learn more.

How do I pay?

Courses offered through Extended University: You pay when you register. Extended University accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, financial aid, and personal check. Students who have previously enrolled at Montana State University may choose to pay using their MSU MyInfo accounts.

Courses offered through the Office of the Registrar: After you register, you may send a check payable to Montana State University to the Student Accounts Office, PO Box 172640, Bozeman, MT 59717-2640. If you are a continuing student, may pay online by echeck or credit card by logging into the secure area of MyInfo and selecting Electronic Billing and Payment. You may also pay in person by check, credit card or cash at the Cashiers’ window on the first floor of Montana Hall on the MSU campus from 8:30 to 4:30 Monday - Friday. See fee payment deadlines.

Learn more at the Student Accounts Web page.

Financial aid

Online students are only eligible to apply for financial aid if they are admitted to Montana State University in a degree or certificate program. For information about financial assistance, please visit MSU's Office of Financial Aid.
