WebDAV Configuration for Macs
Directions for MSU course designers to configure WebDAV on Macintosh systems.
WebDAV is a method of viewing all of your files in a course so that you may
edit them using drag and drop.
Note: The method of creating a WebDAV connection on a Mac depends on the operating
system version. MacOS versions older than 10.4 (commonly known as "Tiger")
require a separate program called goliath to create a connection.
To find your MacOS version, click on the Apple in the top left corner of your
screen and choose "About this Mac" (or Macintosh, or Computer, depending
on your version) and the Mac OS version number should appear somewhere on this
screen.
Mac OS 10.4.x and up (Tiger on up)
-this is one way to do it
log in to your Desire2Learn course and have it ready
open the Finder on your Mac and select 'Go' and then select 'Connect to Server...'

type the MSU Bozeman's Desire2Learn WebDav url into the "Server Address"
textbox of the "Connect to Server" dialog box
http://bozemandav.desire2learn.com/

go into your Desire2Learn account and go into the course you wish to have WebDav
access to...
select 'Edit Course'

select 'Manage Files'

the path to the Manage Files area of your Desire2Learn course is displayed
example
the Spring semester 2009 course '2-D Art Fundamentals' (ART 110RA-01) will display
like this in Desire2Learn: ART_110RA_01_200930
the Manage File area will display this path: /content/enforced/41186-ART_110RA_01_200930/
select and copy the visible course path (in this case: /content/enforced/your
coursename here/)

paste the Manage Files course path (append to the end of the MSU Bozeman's
Desire2Learn WebDav url) into the "Server Address" textbox in the
"Connect to Server" dialog box
example:
the Spring semester 2009 course '2-D Art Fundamentals' (ART 110RA-01)
the "Server Address" will look like this: http://bozemandav.desire2learn.com/content/enforced/41186-ART_110RA_01_200930/

Note: before selecting the "Connect" button, you may wish to hit
the plus sign (+) to enter the "Server Address" into the "Favorite
Servers" area - this will facilitate ease of connecting in the future...
do this for every course you need to access on a regular basis
an authentication box will pop up - supply Desire2Learn username (ID) and password

after successfully logging in, a new finder window will pop open - your course
name will display on the top of the finder window and to the left.
the window will show the folders and files (if any) that are in the Manage
Files area of your targeted course

To connect again at a later time, open the Finder on your Mac and select 'Go'
and then select 'Connect to Server...' - once there, select the correct server
address (out of the "Favorite Servers" area) and log in with your
Desire2Learn username (ID) and password to access your course files.
* Note: This process must be completed for each Desire2Learn course, and must
be completed each semester.
Prior to Mac OS 10.4.x (before Tiger)
Mac OS X version 10.0 - 10.3.9
Go to the Goliath "DiskCopy archive" for Mac OS X. A disk image is
available at: http://www.webdav.org/goliath/#download (under "Mac OS X") - download it.
Decompress the file and double click on the .dmg file. A disk image named 'Goliath
1.0.1' should now be available. Drag and drop the Goliath folder contained within
the disk image to your hard disk.
Overview: To connect to MSU Bozeman's Desire2Learn with Goliath:
- Start the Goliath application by double-clicking it (when you start the
program for the first time, the "New WebDAV Connection" screen will
automatically appear)
- Go into your Desire2Learn account and into the course you wish to have WebDav
access to... select 'Edit Course' and then 'Manage Files' (see illustrations
above) to find your course offering path
- Enter "http://bozemandav.desire2learn.com/content/enforced/XXXXX-your
coursename here/" (drop the quotes and substitute appropriate information)
as the location.
- Enter your Desire2Learn username (ID) and password and click OK.
- After successful login, a folder window will open up showing all of the
files in your Desire2Learn course 'Manage Files' area.
- Because of the way in which Goliath saves passwords, it is recommended that
connections established via Goliath not be saved. Upgrading to MacOS 10.4
or greater will ensure password security.
