Galapagos Islands: In the Footsteps of Darwin is a Great Expeditions course offered through Montana State University's honors program.

Welcome!

groupFrom May 14-25, 2013, a group of Montana State University honors students will be in the Galapagos Islands with MSU geology professor Dr. David Lageson.

They will share photos, videos and daily dispatches via this Website. The students have also created short videos, presentations and other educational resources for schools.

The students are part of an MSU Great Expeditions course called Galapagos Islands: Following in the Footsteps of Darwin. Great Expeditions courses examine the history, social and cultural milieu of an international destination that the class then visits during a two-week excursion.

The students have studied South America and the Galapagos through the eyes of Charles Darwin and his voyage on the H.M.S. Beagle. They also explored how modern researchers in the biological and geological sciences have built upon Darwin's foundation to more fully understand the science of evolution. In addition to Dr. Lageson, the students were instructed by Drs. Jim Schmitt and Dave Varricchio.
